HTC’s event, held last month in London, witnessed the announcement of cooperation with Vodafone in a global scale. The local announcement of this partnership was announced recently. HTC CEO Peter Chou, CEO of Vodafone Turkey Serpil Timuray, HTC Europe, Middle East and Africa Region Head of Responsible Florian Seiche and Vodafone Group Director of Terminals Department Patrick Chomet were all at a press conference held in Istanbul Four Seasons Hotel. In the press conference, all senior executives took the stage, respectively. Referring to the importance of smartphones, administrators have explained their expectations for the future.
Desire S, Wildfire S, ChaCha, Sensation and Flyer, which HTC introduced in 2011, will be available in Turkish market in coming weeks. Vodafone Turkey will be the exclusive partner for the shipment of this devices. Customers in Turkey will find those devices in Vodafone’s 1000 shops around Turkey. Chou and Timuray signed a symbolic deal that closed the agreement between two companies. It was interesting that they signed on HTC Flyer by using Magic Pens. So, they also got a chance to promote HTC’s latest tablet Flyer.
During the Q&A session, we asked if this partnership would include HTC’s Windows Phone devices. Since WP7 doesn’t have Turkish language support, it is impossible to sell those devices in Turkey for the moment. In fact, the execs told that they didn’t have a plan like this because of WP7 devices being lack of sufficient experience for Turkish users. However, Chou asserted that Turkish language support would have come to Windows Phone OS by the end of year. We think that this would open the doors of Turkey for Windows Phone devices.
